Hmm...my first skim of the article makes me think that big churches are good because they provide people with several small church experiences. The difference between a small group of 100 and a church of 100? The small group can actually choose its focus and topic. There is merit to this, but how great is the danger that a small group becomes egocentric? (I haven't seen it; I'm just thinking as I type rather than thinking before I type.

Actually, I did read the article. It's interesting that it got picked up by yahoo.

I think the biggest change the 'seeker sensitive' movement has produced is strange blend of 1st century synogogues and 1st century athens. Sunday mornings are basically a mix of large public gatherings of both saved & lost, wanting to hear something new. Sorta like American towns used to gather at a lecture hall instead of watching tv.

Thanksfully, these towns let Christians speak in there halls each week (which works out well since the Christians, in these cases, paid for the structure).

That's fine. I'm not sure it's really a church on Sunday mornings, but it's not a bad thing.

The small groups are the churches imo

actually, what you write initially is called a "post" ap, what the people write about that post are called "comments" and the whole gosh darn thing is called a "blog" NOT the individual written pieces. i'm getting geeky enough to notice improper terminology. sorry. alas most people don't know or care about such things.

"alas most people don't know or care about such things." count me among the latter! haha... sorry jo. i'll try to do better next time.

i am sympathetic to your thoughts, matt. think there's a connection between what you say and the genesis of the phrase "do church"?
