update

past weekend went really well. good sunday worship; good connection with the people; good time with darren. speaking of which, TWO THUMBS UP to DARREN CROSWELL for coming to new york with me.

one more note, check out the compliment from H.C. Wilson's "It's Monday Again" to Sussex Wesleyan Church: "Our hats are off to Sussex for this excellent outreach effort." Why did H.C. use this phrase? Personally, I think it's H.C. Wilson reads Albert Camus who uses this phrase in The Plague. Surprising as it is with his busy schedule, Wilson makes the time to read the existentialist philosopher. (He did, after all, quote "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller in a sermon.)

TWO THUMBS UP to Dr. Wilson for using this special phrase.

Can we get over ourselves?

so, it seems that postmodernity is becoming as massive as the movement it hates so much. weird. the only problem is that much of postmodernity ends up being like a little child pointing a finger at an object and shouting, "i don't like that!" or, for its supporters with a philosophy class under their belts, "your epistemological bias is showing!" the reason postmodernity is nothing and everything all at once is precisely because it is. it has no perameters. and once it grows up, has some people put handles to it, and moves forward, it will be outdated and reacted against itself. its hatred for analytic philosophy and pride make too many people think they can jot gobbledygook, say it means what they feel, and move on. gobbledygook said by intelligent and grumpy people is still gobbledygook. (kierkegaards don't fall out of the sky--it takes work.)

problem is that you can't just point and shout about how bad things are that you inherited. you've got to do something about it. it's time to move on and do something. you can't just tear down. you have to build--as dangerous as it is. after Babel, there is Pentecost. after Ahab is rejected, Elijah annoints a Hazael, and a Jehu (Oliver O'Donovan).

new features at my blog

something new on my blog: thumbs up people and thumbs down people. THUMBS UP for good things; THUMBS DOWN for bad things. every once in a while i will offer someone a "HATS OFF" which is from "The Plague" by Camus. HATS OFF is pretty much the best compliment anyone can ever get.

THUMBS UP to MARK BREWER for fighting the harry potter battle for a long time.
THUMBS DOWN to MEGAN STEPHENS for ripping my blog's title.

the gospel of harry potter

i've been on the offensive regarding harry, lately. i am sick of hearing people gripe about harry either because they haven't read it or they have misread their Bible. so, i'm on the offensive: challenging people to read it and discuss it with me; selling all the wonderful things about the books; alerting people to the fact that Rowling is a genius.

i still haven't got to the sixth book yet because i've been re-reading the previous five. so, don't spoil it for me.

start with life

the thing i hate most about hearing biblical principles on something is that "life gets in the way." that's exactly right--and said by a person who was in a teaching time i was sitting in on. life isn't made up of principles and dictums and proverbs. life is made up of blood, hair, people--messy things that exist about as far away from principles as you can get.

so, i say don't start with principles, start with life. life is where we start regardless...life in a downward spiral from the get-go...and principles can't reach out to a downward spiral. life is what we've got to work with.

"in him was life and that life was the light of men." John 1:4

romancing ministry

through the whole job search, i would have to say my biggest surprise is that i didn't think it would be like this. at some point i started believing that this would be an easy process, with doors opening, and pieces falling into place without much effort or discernment. i thought the right place would be easy to find and would be such an obvious choice that a fool could have made the right step. not sure where this came from; not sure why i believe it; not sure where to go from here.

maybe i should write a book: searching for job knows what.

BACK

felt bored. revived the blog. i may or may not continue it beyond, say, five days.
