Bible Thumping: Scot McKnight on Christian Zealotry

The following links are well worth the read. They deal with the tendency of some Bible thumpers to take the Bible so seriously, that they go beyond what it says. And all those raised in strictly pietist homes said Amen! ;)

They are a little lengthy, and thoughtful, but easy to follow.

Here's the first.

Here's the second.

Thanks for the link to McKnight's blog. He's right, of course. And I say from experience, it's no fun being on the wrong end of a Zealot's printed passion.

Ha! I always find it a little fun--and appreciate the opportunity to boast in my righteousness. ;)

Wait till it's someone in your church writing your pastor to have you fired. You may feel differently as you boast all the way to the EI office (or US equivalent).

I suppose I could point to lack of sense of humour... :)

However, I'll follow it with more self-disclosure. The laugh and appreciation usually only comes after several emails/phone calls of vented frustration. And then not all the time.
