Scratching where I itch...

I am a Canadian who lives in the United States. I will someday, I greatly expect, move back to Canada to live the rest of my life. One thing I have come to appreciate about the United States, though, is the banking facilities. TOTALLY FREE CHECKING. Credit Unions that pay you money to sign up and offer savings accounts that actually register interest in dollars rather than nickels and dimes at the end of the month. So, let me just say that I can appreciate a government who starts asking questions of banks. Long live the authorities who think like the average joe!

Of course, THE "avereage Joe" is the greatest PM of all time, Stephen Joseph Harper, peace be upon him and his family.

Crusty.

This is so ironic to me. I perfer the banking system in Canada. Even though Bank of America has recently impressed me with several things, I still miss RBC.

In general, I miss almost every place taking credit cards.

I also hate deposit slips which the good old USA has in an annoying abundance. RBC you just slide your card and they can help you.

that is interesting, heather. although i think it might be a lousy bank and not a lousy banking system that you're dealing with. my bank is fine for doing quick and relatively paperfree transactions. online banking, a free service, eliminates almost all paper.

now, having nationwide banks like RBC, Scotia, Bank of Montreal, etc. is quite handy. that is the product of a more socialist philosophy. when it works well, you're glad. but when it doesn't, there's no way to get away from it. if you don't like the main banks in ontario, chances are that you won't like the main banks in B.C.

I wonder if that is the same Flaherty from SCTV. If so then I am totally on his side.

i liked the cross-country omnipresent banking systems of canada. i liked that i didn't get charged extra for ATM withdrawels from Royal Bank when I was driving through Nova Scotia, PEI, Quebec or Ontario.

It was STUPID though to only be allowed four debit payments a month at a cash register. That's rediculous. Maybe I don't want to carry cash all the time.

i guess it's a good thing i'm american.
