Three things

First, please pray for me as I have some traveling and conferencing to do next weekend. I am a little torn by my nervousness and by my fear that it will snow and I will be unable to go.

Second, I have sold almost $200 worth on amazon.com. Who knew?

Third, I was reading an essay from my Harry Potter book that my brother Tim gave me for Christmas. It reminded me that living out some desires doesn't show freedom of action, but the deep bondage of our desires.

it may have been clean, but it was late, from behind, and Neil was purposefully aiming for Drury's head. He wanted him to go down like that... headhunting at its finest.

Hope your enjoying the hockey season a little aaron :)

i would have to disagree on most points, tim. (tim reardon, ladies and gentlemen!!)

the hit clearly wasn't late. watch the replay: it was less than a second after drury shot the puck.

the hit was not even close to being from behind. he caught him on the side of the head...that proves that it couldn't have been from behind. in fact, neil cut *in front* of drury to hit him. drury didnt' see him, but that doesn't mean it was from behind.

what did he aim at drury's head? his elbow? no. his shoulder? yes. that's what a hockey check is. whether he wanted drury to go down like that, i have known very few (scott stevens being one) who enjoyed injuring another player. he definitely wanted him to go down, but just as many times as a player gets hit like that, he bounces back up. what did the most damage was drury hitting the ice. neil may have wanted to injure drury; i can't tell his motives. but neither does the replay.

there was nothing wrong with the hit. i am an ottawa fun in a subdued way and not a neil fan at all, really. lindy ruff is an idiot, though, and will be suspended. adam mair apologized after the game; that says quite a bit about himself and, as a negative result, his coach.

i kind of love the situation. I hate our captain being hurt and am worried about rumors of a possible concussion, but I kind of love being this excited about games. There's no convincing me that neil wasn't gunning for Drury and that an intentional hit to the head like that shouldn't be banned from hockey.

But I'm also very aware that I think all of these things from my own bias. There is no way that I can look at that objectively. Personally I love Ruff, again my bias, but it does seem over the top to send out your goons. I think there is a lot of frustration for a few reason. Ottawa has (surely incidentally) been at the giving end of many of our injuries in recent history (Tim Connolly for one) and also because Buffalo has goten pegged as a soft team who, if other teams push them around, they are powerless to do anything. Teams say before almost every game that they've seen that they just have to push Buffalo around to let them win.

That being said... it was sure exciting and I only listened on the radio. I certainly only think this way because I'm a sabres fan, no way around it. However, nothing wrong with good hard hitting, and though legal, still woried about shots to the head.

It so interesting to me to know that I am probably wrong in my view of the hit and the brawl (as almost every other fan accross the league disagress with me accept for some Leafs fans) but I just can't separate myself from being a fan.

I found a Buffalo Wild Wings in Lexington that has the center Ice package. I'm going to try to hit that up on Saturday.

I hope all is well Aaron.
God Bless
Tim

i am actually with you about blows to the head, but as the rules stand now, it was clean. and you can "gun" for a player without intending to hurt him. i don't think many people like giving concussions, though they definitely want the skilled players to play with caution, and, "off their game."

i will be watching the game, as well!!!!
